About - Graduate Marine Engineering (GME)

GME or Graduation in Marine Engineering involves building vessels, oil rigs and ocean equipment that are used in the field of defence, research, oceanic refinery plants, etc. GME courses are concerned with everything from developing navigation and guidance technology, boats and ships for different exploration purposes to creating huge submarines and war vessels.     Marine engineers are alert and ready to tackle any emergency breakdowns. They work with experts to resolve the issue within a specific period.

  • Marine engineers are trained to care for the power plant. They clean oil, sludge, and tanks.

  • Marine engineers communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and stakeholders.

  • Teamwork
  • Marine engineers work well in maritime teams to ensure seamless ship operations and maintenance.

Graduate Marine Engineering Scope 

 Marine engineering is a One-year pre sea course that leads to becoming a 4th/5th Engineer on a ship. Marine engineers are responsible for the smooth running of the ship's engines and all the mechanical, . They report to the ship's Captain

After completing their degree, graduates marine engineering can work on all kinds of ships, including: Ferries, Cargo ships, Cruise liners, Military vessels.

Graduates marine engineering typically start as a trainee or junior engineer for a six-month working contract. They follow instructions from the Captain and Chief Engineer.

To become a ship's Captain, you need to gain working experience. Internship programs are a good way to get hands-on experience


Eligibility

  • BE.Mech / B.Tech. in Mechanical/ Naval Architecture or Mechanical & Automation after attending a course of 4 years duration from a UGC recognized University and/or approved by AICTE, with minimum 60% aggregate marks and minimum 60% marks in the final year;
  • In class 12th or equivalent have scored minimum 60% marks in PCM or Diploma aggregate 60%.
  • For Diploma candidates with lateral entry to 2nd year of B.Tech, need to have scored 60% and above in Diploma followed by the Degree eligibility criteria.
  • Must have not have scored 50% in English as a different subject, at either tenth or twelfth norm or in the Degree course directed by a Recognized Board/University.
  • The age should not surpass 28 years on the date of beginning obviously (Course initiates in March, July, and November consistently).
  • Genuinely fit and medical fit as determined by DGS rules, vision 6/12 in each eye without visual guides and no partial blindness.
  • Candidates looking to take admission to GME course must have a valid passport.

  • Career Path

    After the completion of the course, the cadets will be issued with the CDC, INDoS No. and Course Completion. The cadets will join the Ship as a Fifth Engineer.


CAREER GROWTH AFTER PRE-SEA COURSE & TRAINING

STEP 1

6-9 Month trainee 4th engineer , Salary $300 to $1200 approx.

STEP 2

12-24th months as in 4th Engineer, Salary $2200 to $3150 approx.

STEP 3

18th months as in 3rd Engineer, Salary $2700 to $4500 approx.
